Walmart Supplier Returns
The Challenge
Walmart and Sam’s Club receives over 2,000 inquiries a week from companies wanting to supply product to the world’s largest retailer. The fact is that less than 2% of manufacturers actually succeed in becoming a Walmart Vendor. Getting in front of a Walmart Buyer can be a challenge and you must be well prepared to close the deal when the opportunity presents itself.
Walmart’s Supplier Agreement is complex and difficult to navigate for the uninitiated. The Return Policy section of the Supplier’s Agreement has three options a manufacturer must be prepared to negotiate and two requirements they need to factor into their pricing. In addition, prospective suppliers must be ready to explain how they will deal with customer returns, recalls, and end-of-life goods.
These supplier agreement’s terms can vary significantly depending on the product. Preparation, based on industry knowledge, benchmarks and experience, is invaluable. Prospective Walmart Suppliers only have about 45 minutes with the Buyer to present the product, negotiate pricing and define the rest of the terms in the Supplier Agreement. You need to be prepared. You need Greve-Davis.

A Walmart Executive’s Response to Our Program
“I came accross your articles on dealing with Wal-Mart in terms of reverse logistics and specifically, contract negotiations. Just to give you a little backgroung on myself, I am the guy that these potential vendors sit down with and negotiate these terms. Recently, we (Wal-Mart) have launched e-commerce (initiatives) and onboarding some of these vendors has been difficult to say the least. It surprises me how many vendors overlook reverse logistics as a key element in the contracts and ultimatlely, this either shuts the door on them or delays their on-boarding. I agree with your statements regarding how and what to expect during these meetings ….”
